BUNNY BAE

BAE’s visual identity is distinct and inevitably us. Meet our talented head designer behind this conception — Ashley Rhoden — known to us as Bunny Bae! What started as a client-designer relationship, morphed into a long-term collaboration as Ashley learnt what BAE stands for. She identified with our vision and is now an essential part of our core team. All her life, she’s been flexing her creative muscle. Being an artist, it was a natural transition for her to become a designer as she gravitated towards creating things for functionality and that made sense.

DO YOU HAVE A WORK MANTRA?

“When your work speaks for itself, don’t interrupt.” — Henry J. Kaiser

TALK US THROUGH BAE’S VISUAL LANGUAGE.

It’s so simple: The Sailor Moon color palette, mostly inspired from the 90’s art style along with the clean sensibility of Swiss graphic design.

WHAT IS GOOD DESIGN TO YOU?

Design that makes sense and takes risks. When I think about what “makes sense” and what that means to me, it’s about the balance of the color palette and simplicity, for example. It seems like everyone’s looking for edgy design but most are too afraid to do something a little non-traditional that, when it feels right, it’s just right.

FAVOURITE ALBUM ART OF ALL TIME?

Grace Jones’ Island Life. The album art is timeless. She looks strong and sexy. She looks like a sculpture, she’s positioned so perfectly. Ever since I was little, I’ve just loved her completion as well…she just glistens!

LIST US 3 SONGS YOU ENJOY WORKING TO.

“Tree of Life” by Actress

“The Throning” by Hype Williams

“Feel It Out” by Yaeji

LASTLY, WHO DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD FEATURE NEXT?

BOSCO. She’s been my homegirl since forever and she’s hands down one of the most creative people I know.
